A Tribute to RAJEEV GOSWAMI

"On September 19, 1990, the then 20-year-old Rajeev Goswami, a commerce student of Delhi University’s Deshbandhu College, had poured oil and set himself on fire amid a crowd of supporters and spectators in one of the most divisive phases since Independence. Like thousands of upper caste students in India, he was protesting against the government’s decision to implement the Mandal Commission recommendation of 27 per cent quota for backward classes. Goswami, who sustained 80 per cent burns, finally succumbed to the injuries on February 24, 2004."
